Richard C. Ferguson, Esq.

Graduated from Daemon College 1985 – Magna cum Laude
Graduated with honors from SUNY at Buffalo Law School 1988
Member New York State Bar Association
Member Monroe County Bar Association
Former Member Injured Workers’ Bar Association
Member of the Workers’ Compensation Attorney Focus Group
Member of the Governor’s Advisory Council on Workers’ Compensation Reform

Rick was born into a blue collar family in Greece, New York, in 1963, the son of an ex-coal miner and a stay at home Mom. While never poor, the family always struggled to make ends meet. Rick put himself through college and law school working as a janitor, construction laborer, newspaper reporter, and a farm hand. He has run jackhammers, bobcats, and forklifts, shoveled manure, laid brick, mopped floors and cleaned toilets. This may be important to you if you are looking for an attorney who can actually comprehend hard work, struggling to pay bills, and living paycheck to paycheck.

He began his legal career employed by a Workers’ Compensation defense firm for seven years, eventually making partner. During that time, he handled thousands of cases on behalf of insurance companies, defending claims. In 1996, Rick switched over to representing the injured worker in Compensation claims, and eventually opened his own law firm in 2009. Rick now has been in the exclusive practice of Workers’ Compensation law for the past 25 years. Having been on both sides in Compensation cases has given him a rather unique perspective on handing a claim, and allows him to anticipate and overcome the issues typically encountered. He currently represents some 1,000 injured workers’ cases.
Rick is a frequent speaker at Workers’ Compensation seminars, has hosted continuing legal education courses to train other attorneys, and is active in the Governor’s Advisory Council as an adviser on Workers’ Compensation issues.

He has been happily married to Patricia Ferguson (who actually runs the firm…) for 24 years and now lives in rural Orleans County.

Patricia Y. Ferguson, Legal Assistant

As Patty’s last name might suggest, she is Attorney Rick Ferguson’s wife. While her professional background has been Accounting for over 30 years and her addition to our office staff was not planned, she has been successfully assisting with the law office since 2009. Her attention to detail and people skills, along with genuine concern for the welfare of the claimants has served our growing client base well. When you call the office you likely will be greeted by her. In addition to maintaining the internal workings of the office, she can typically assist claimants with issues such as filing of paperwork/forms, prescription issues, obtaining medical records, resolving payment issues, following up on treatment requests, etc. As the two attorneys are oftentimes at hearings, your initial questions and concerns can be addressed to her with confidence.
